CLINICAL EVALUATION OF SU JOK THERAPY APPLICATION IN A COMPLEX TREATMENT OF SICKLY CHILDREN

R.Z.Pulatova, U.A.Saidov, Research Institute of paediatrics under Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan

The article describes a study of effectiveness of Su Jok therapy in 40 sickly children and children with chronic diseases of the respiratory organs basing on a complex of clinical and laboratory instrumental methods.

In 95% of patients the treatment resulted in a positive clinical and laboratory dynamics which was more pronounced than in the control group. The authors conclude that Su Jok therapy can be effectively used in paediatrics for these pathologies and that further research are necessary.

CLINICAL EVALUATION OF SU JOK THERAPY APPLICATION IN A COMPLEX TREATMENT OF SICKLY CHILDREN

Pulmonary and bronchial diseases comprise exactly the group of disorders in which impairments of the immune system are most common and immune deficiency conditions (IDC) are developing, or IDC lie in the origin of the chronic broncho-pulmonary process - these facts are reported in medical literature. The clinical criteria of IDC are the persistent, frequently recurred course of the basic disease, absence or very little effect of therapy, complications such as autoimmune, allergic and other disorders.

The ability of Su Jok therapy to stimulate the body's reactivity, in particular, the function of the reticular endothelial system, to normalise cortex-subcortex relations, to act positively on the adrenals-pineal body system, to produce a desensitising effect, to improve microcirculation - justifies its application for treating the bronchial and pulmonary system.

The research was aimed at studying clinical effectiveness of Su Jok therapy in a complex treatment of patients with chronic pathologies of the respiratory organs. Action was performed by inserting needles into the acupoints.

The treatment method used: in the basic correspondence system of the hand and foot.

Influence on the children's organism comprised both direct stimulation of the function of the thymus and indirect influence on the thymus and lymphocytes of the peripheral blood through stimulating the hormone activity of the thyroid gland, enhancing microcirculation and oxidation processes in tissues.

Acupuncture was performed against the background of complex therapy that included drug treatment and physical therapy.

The effect of treatment was assessed basing on complex clinical, laboratory and instrumental methods of investigation. We observed 40 patients (basic group), they were sickly children from 3 to 15 years old who fell ill often (SC) and children with respiratory diseases of bacterial and viral aetiology (recurrent bronchitis, chronic pneumonia, recurrent acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) 2-3 times per year complicated by bronchopneumonia). The results obtained were compared with the observation data of 20 patients of the same age group having these pathologies (control group).

Needling was performed during 7 sessions. In the majority of the patients (90%) a positive clinical effect was obtained, which was expressed, first of all, in better general condition (9.2+0.9 days in the basic and 13.7+1.8 days in the control group, p<0.01); appetite (5.2+1.9; 10.6+1.1 days, p<0.05); sleep (1.2+0.2; 12.3+1.7, p,0.01) as soon as after the first treatment session.

Almost in all patients (95%) a marked sedative effect was observed, disappearance of over-anxiousness, improvement of moods, positive dynamics of the lymph nodes size (7.3+1.1; 12.4+2.2 days, p<0.04) and of the weight curve (8.1+1.4; 13.4+1.6 days, p<0.01).

Therefore, the treatment using the correspondence systems resulted in acceleration of the recovery process, quicker normalisation of clinical and laboratory indices. The method, however, would require further accumulation of facts, longitudinal observation of the patients, analysis of the mechanism of its action on bronchopulmonary pathologies in sickly children (Table 1).

  Basic Control
Effectiveness, % (improvement of general condition, appetite, sleep, decrease of cough, dyspnoea, normalisation of lymph nodes sizes, weight gain) 90% 60%
Sedative effect, % (improvement of moods, less anxiety) 95% 70%
