Acupressure and Acupuncture are the "Therapies of Nature". These therapies have been long recognized in India, China, Japan and Korea and are widely used in private clinics of these countries.
While visiting China in the 1970's, President Richard Nixon observed how these therapies work and he was impressed with their results. Upon returning to the United States, President Nixon sent a group of leading physicians to China to study Acupressure and Acupuncture. After much research, the physicians expressed favorable opinions about these therapies. Since the 1970's, Acupressure and Acupuncture have gained much popularity in the West as more and more people discover the many benefits.
More than five thousand years ago the Chinese discovered that pressing certain points on the body relieved pain where it occured and it also gave benefit to other parts of the body. Gradually other points were found that not only relieved pain but also influenced the functioning of certain internal organs. In the Indian Books of Ayurveda there is reference to Ayurvedic Massage and Acupressure being used for the purpose of healing.
Acupressure is the most ancient and simplest of the various therapies such as Acupuncture, Shiatsu , Reflexology and other Healing therapies which are prevalent today. Each of these therapies produces healing effects on the internal organs of the body through well defined points on our body surface.
Foot Reflexology is deep-tissue massage of the feet. Reflexology descended from early Eastern cultures. Foot Reflexology was popularized in the 1930's by Eunice D. Ingham, a physiotherapist. Her method is the most popular and widely accepted in the world.
The feet are rich in nerve endings and these nerves are connected to organ systems and glands throughout the body. If our natural rhythms are disrupted and circulation is impaired, (lack of exercise, desk job, bed-ridden) we allow an excess acid condition to develop. Acid crystals, (similar to frost particles when viewed under a microscope) can accumulate in the nerve endings of the feet. When the nerve endings are stimulated with Reflexology, the acid crystals are broken down and circulation is increased in the corresponding organ system or gland - balance is restored.
